Strychnin Gallery and Korero Books are proud to announce the release of “Art that Creeps” – a new book showcasing young artists from around the world who work in traditional and not so traditional techniques and genres.
Highlighting a selection of artists who eschew the cold, minimalist aesthetic that afflicts contemporary art, this book explores the truly sinister, hyper-real, and riotous blend of pop culture, fine art, and surrealism that is Neo-Gothic art. Associated with punk and dark fantasy, yet distinct from both, these risk-taking artists are represented with a selection of hundreds of amazing paintings from the U.S. and European Neo-Gothic scene. Yasha Young, the owner and gallerist of Strychnin Gallery, is the general editor of the book and wrote the foreward. Read the rest of this entry »

In three weeks time, four Strychnin artists will be exhibiting their work alongside Shepard Fairey, Gary Baseman, Ron English, Tara McPherson, Jeff Soto and many more as part of the “Apocalypse Wow!” show at the MACRO in Rome.
This is a great step for David Hochbaum, Richard Kirk, Ver Mar and Francois Escalmel – their work is truly beautiful and deserves to be sharing space with some of the big names in “Low Brow” and “Pop Surrealist” art.
If you can’t make it to the MACRO, both David Hochbaum and Ver Mar have shows at Strychnin Gallery in Berlin right now, and Francois’ work is hanging in the hallway. We will also be showing more of David’s work, as well as Richard Kirk’s largest piece to date at Art Fair 21 in Cologne at the end of the month.
For more information about the “Apocalypse Wow!” show, take a look at the Myspace page here

After his last solo show at Strychnin Gallery Berlin in November 2008, American artist David Hochbaum is now back with new works – this time going back to his roots in the darkroom. Presenting mostly black and white works based on photographs, Hochbaum’s preoccupation with houses, labyrinthine streets and cityscapes is brought to a new level in these carefully layered works. This is the start of a busy month for David Hochbaum, as he will also be showing work at Art Fair 21 in Cologne, “Apocalypse Wow!” at the MACRO in Rome, and the huge “Magistrates” show at Strychnin in November!

“Thaw” by David Hochbaum
Ver Mar, whose sculptures of oceanic mythological creatures have already been seen in a few group shows at Strychnin Gallery, is showing a full-blown installation in Europe for the first time in The Vault, Strychnin’s exhibition room reserved for special occasions. Ver’s work will also be featured in the “Apocalypse Wow! show, alongside Shepard Fairey, Ron Englich, Richard Kirk, Camille Rose Garcia and others

“Boar Aquarius” by Ver Mar
The show opens on October 9th at 7pm, and runs until November 8th at Strychnin Gallery – Boxhagener Strasse 36, 10245 Berlin. More updates to come this week, as we build up the show!
