Strychnin Gallery: “Garden of the Dispossessed” Opening night!

Friday’s opening was a great success – plenty of new visitors mixed with the familiar faces to keep the gallery crowed throughout the night! As well as both David Hochbaum and Ver Mar being here to meet everyone and talk about their work, Kim Boekbinder played a beautiful impromptu set on her ukelele.

The size and beauty of David’s work drew people in from the cold streets of Friedrichshain, as well as those who already knew about the show or had heard about it from friends.

The gallery always attracts a very diverse crowd, and we love seeing the effort Berliners put in to their costumes for a night out. There is always something happening on a Friday evening, so many people drop in on their way somewhere else.

Kim Boekbinder played a short acoustic set on her ukelele for the guests at the gallery. Kim has previously played at the gallery with her band Vermillion Lies for the opening of “Bright Lights – Dark Shadows” in April, and also has some of her artwork on show in the hallway during this month.

Ver Mar’s installation “Myths, Omens and Misunderstandings” in The Vault also had a good reaction with all the people who came in.

For those of you who won’t be able to visit the gallery in time to see David’s show, you can see all the artwork here. At the end of October Strychnin will be heading back to Cologne for Art Fair 21, and then on to Rome for the “Apocalypse Wow!” show at the MACRO.

After that we have two amazing shows to round off the year – “Magistrates” featuring work from Ray Caesar, Chet Zar, Michael Page and many more, as well as the European launch of “Fushigi Circus” by Mark Ryden. In Decmeber will be our “X-mas Luau” with new works by Shag, Moritz R. Bradd Parker, Haikai, and a host of others!
