The official blog for everything relating to the former Strychnin Crew & Urban Nation
Strychnin artist Christian Rothenhagen is currently exhibiting a new collection of art work at the Neon Chocolate gallery in a show titled ‘My Berlin’.
Christian’s artwork is classic example of when illustration meets gallery art, with seemingly vernacular backgrounds and textures mixed with perfectly executed line work. He uses a mix of medias including Japanese alcohol pens, ink and graphite and also collaborated with AUTO64 to create amazing video installations and animations.
I believe that Christian’s style of artwork work is as essential to modern society as the likes of works by master painters such as Bruegel. It’s essentially social commentary and mapping the evolution of a city or country. One major difference apart from style and technique is that that Christian’s artwork oozes the pride he has for the city he has grown up in, and this is the core of what the show ‘My Berlin’ is all about.
The show also curated by Christian comprises of 4 different artists (Anni Fittkau, Benny Golm, AUTO64) with Christian’s work filling the whole front section of the gallery. His work is extremely accessible so if you are looking for a gift or something for yourself that sums up your time in Berlin, then don’t buy a fake chunk off wall or a cheesy Berlin bear snow globe. Head to Neon Chocolate and check out this show.
