Strychnin Gallery

The official blog for everything relating to the former Strychnin Crew & Urban Nation

Today’s feature: CAROLINA TOSCANO!

For our “birthday” show, we’ve rounded up a handful of new artists we’ve never shown before! Brand-new artists whose work we would like to display alongside Strychnin “classics” (i.e. the artists usually represented by Strychnin).
Our aim as a gallery is to keep searching and discovering new talents; individuals with passion and potential with work we want to push and make it public for many to see. I will be posting one feature for each new artist – as of today- until the opening of the show!
Today’s I’m covering the work of Carolina Toscano. Born in Valencia, Carolina’s work is bombarded with contrasts. She began developing her artistic self at a young age due to the fact she assisted her father in his ceramics shop. Her first show was in 2004 in the Galeria Carmen Torrellardona (Andorra). Since, that point on, she’s shown at Instituto Cervantes de París, Museo Bassols de Barcelona, Gobierno de Andorra, Fundacion Credit Andorra, amongst others.
Her art is inspired by pop and mainstream iconography, which she combines with sharp-wit. Her canvases? Well, Carolina started experimenting with pottery and realized she could translate her statement and paradoxes much better on ceramics. A “classical” object like a vase with a visually critical artistic on-take. For this show, she sculpted and painted a piece especially for us, titled FETISH, and she sent another lovely vase- WHO’S THE MAN? This is just a sneak peek, for the full on view, you’ll have to come to the opening on the 16th!
